Edwardian Shirtwaist #1 is a small mobile piece that offers moments to ponder the plight of those who were killed in the fire and the labor laws that came after. Mounted from a tiny hook Edwardian Shirtwaist #1 slowly turns with the question: “Fair working conditions – or none.” My grandmother who was a suffragette, and her son, my Dad, who lived through that terrible time told us of that awful fire story. Yippee for New Yorkers who went on to establish unions to regulate safe working conditions for laborers.
