2011
2011 marks ASSE’s 100th anniversary, and I would like to wish it a heartfelt “Happy Birthday!” On a somber note, I recall the reason for ASSE’s founding on Oct. 14, 1911 : the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of March 25, 1911. 146 young people, mostly female immigrants, perished in a fire on the top floors of the Asch Building. This newsletter explores the Fire, and 2 critical fire safety issues : sprinkler heads and panic bars.
