My mother, a garment worker, toiled in the sweatshops of the early twentieth century. She helped to organize those sweatshops, went on strike, and had a tussle with a scab. My aunt and mother-in-law were also active in the garment workers’ union. I am thankful that none of my family worked at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. I tried to portray my family in the last scene of my project. They are in the crowd of people protesting the heartless conditions imposed by greedy bosses.

Now I am working on another project about Bangladesh garment workers. Hundreds of these workers have died in fires very similar to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. The protests continue.
