My daughter first became interested in the fire when she was six, after reading a children’s book about it. She rapidly read a bunch of other books about the labor movement, immigration and women’s suffrage. We live in the East Village — several of the victims lived within a block of our home. We discovered recently that Josie is a cousin of Max Steuer, the lawyer for the factory owners. She wrote this essay for a class assignment . She was shocked that none of her classmates had heard of the Triangle Fire.
