This card, perhaps depicting the Triangle fire, comes from Esther Malke Altschul Gerstein’s collection, now kept by her daughter, Mary Baroff. Esther, known as Molly, worked at the Triangle Factory with her sister-in-law, Masha Gerstein, who fell to her death in the fire. Molly was not at work that day, and survived. Michael Hirsch states that Masha is called “Molly” in the list of victims, a name she had adopted at work. Michael, Molly’s husband, identified his sister Masha’s body. My Grandmother, Minnie Gerstein Siporin, was Michael and Masha’s sister. The Gersteins were from Mozyr, Russia (now Belarus).
