My maternal grandmother, Dora Ferman, was a lifelong needle trades worker. Widowed in the early 1920’s, she went back to work, using her late husband’s union card, as a furrier. Prior to her marriage she was a shirtwaist operator. I found her, under her maiden name, Dora Brotman in the 1910 census listed as such. As the saying goes, “There but for the grace…”
