Joseph Zito was 27 at the time of the Triangle fire (born Sept. 1, 1883, Serre [Salerno], Italy). A hero of the fire, he operated the elevator in the Asch building rescuing many girls from the top floors, until the flames burned the cables of the elevator. This photograph of him has been passed down generation to generation by the DiMatteo-Cardinali-Zito Families.
